Where

How severity is decided

WorldPulse normalises every source onto one 1-to-5 scale, because an earthquake magnitude, a storm warning and an exploited vulnerability are not otherwise comparable. Severity 4 and 5 mean the issuing agency itself classified the event at its highest levels — we do not invent the threshold, and we do not re-rank events to make the page look busier.

Questions

What makes an event critical?

Severity 4 and 5 on the 1-to-5 scale WorldPulse normalises across all sources. For an earthquake that means a high magnitude; for a weather warning, an Extreme or Severe classification from the issuing agency; for a vulnerability, confirmed active exploitation. The threshold comes from the source, not from us.

How often does this page update?

Sources are polled every 5 to 15 minutes. This page is a snapshot taken when it was generated — the live map and feed always show the current picture.
